Passports & Visas

The government of Brazil has implemented a visa-free regime starting June 17th, 2019. Most travelers can enter in Brazil for a stay of up to 90 days, which can be extended for an additional 90 days. Please keep in mind that even if staying less than 90 days, you must:

  • Stay less than 180 days within a 12-month period
  • Hold a passport valid at least six months on entry with one blank visa page
  • Hold proof of sufficient funds
  • Hold proof of onward/return airline tickets
  • Hold all documents required for the next destination
  • Confirm with their airline that boarding will be permitted without a visa as these conditions are subject to change

Getting to Florianópolis

By Plane

Florianópolis is served by Hercílio Luz International Airport (FLN) for both domestic and international flights.

Hercilio Luz Airport handles all major carriers through their Latin American affiliates. The airport is located 15 km from the city center of Florianópolis with several bus and taxi companies providing airport shuttle.

By Car

You should use the Route BR-101 (cross Brazil from north to south), the entrance to Florianópolis will be at kilometer 206, from there read the signs and get the express route BR-282 which leads to Florianópolis.

By Bus

The Central Bus Station, Terminal Rita Maria, connects Florianópolis to main Brazilian cities and other cities in the Santa Catarina State. The main bus companies in Florianópolis are Catarinense, Reunidas, Santo Anjo, and Eucatur.

Currency

The Brazilian Real (pl. reais) is the official currency of Brazil. Banknotes are offered in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 reais. You will be able to find coins in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 centavos (100 centavos = 1 real) and 1 real. $1 USD is roughly equivalent to 4 Reais.

Electricity

The state of Santa Catarina, wherein Florianópolis is located, the power supply is 220V. The outlets accommodate Type C (two round pins) and Type N (two round and one grounding pins) plugs.

-3 hours GMT (+1 hours from EST and +4 hours from PST) and is referred to as Brasilia Standard Time.
