The Fellowship Committee has been busy since the Annual Meeting in Prague. We have had the pleasure of welcoming the 2017 class of 42 Candidate Members and three Associate Members to SRS. Of the 42 Candidate Members there are 17 from outside the United States and all 3 of the Associate Members are from outside the USA. During the past year we have also approved 20 Candidate Members for Active status in the society and five of those members are from outside of the United States.

With the December cycle we accepted our first Senior Candidate Member. Senior Candidate Members have higher requirements to apply for membership including a minimum of 20 years spinal deformity experience and a status of full professorship or chief of a spinal division at their institution. As a Senior Candidate Member, there is a shortened two year candidacy term to become an Active Member and in that time they must serve on a committee, submit an abstract, attend an SRS meeting and submit their annual M&M reports.

This year we also implemented an online candidate status report that can be accessed at any time by our Candidate Members to help them stay up to date with their requirements for Active Membership. So far the feedback from the Candidate Members has been very good about the site, stating that they appreciate the ability to check their status more than once a year.
