CME Committee Update

David H. Clements, MD
CME Committee Chair

The Continuing Medical Education (CME) Committee continues to refine the procedures and processes related to maintaining SRS’s accreditation status. SRS was granted provisional accreditation in 2012 and then full accreditation for four years in 2014. In order to be granted reaccreditation in July 2018, at the end of this year, we will be submitting our self study and other data that includes annual reports; examples of our ability to fulfill our educational mission effectively; and evidence of how SRS complies with the ACCME’s accreditation criteria, standards for commercial support, and policies.

The Committee would like to thank all the meeting, course, and council chairs as well as the committees that have been involved in producing our educational offerings in the past several years. We also want to thank everyone who ever fills out those meeting/course evaluations because they are so crucial to helping us constantly question if we are meeting SRS’s educational mission.

In 2016 alone, we reported offering CME for 15 educational activities. Such activities include: 23rd IMAST, 51st Annual Meeting, 51st Pre-Meeting Course, 6th Hands-On Course, 9 Spine Deformity articles, Growing Spine Foundation’s 10th ICEOS, and our first webinar. We already anticipate 2017 to include more CME events offered as we look to increase webinars and Current Concepts in Spine Deformity courses. The CME Committee hopes that you continue to work with us in ensuring SRS’s educational programs meet your learning needs.
