Professor Kenneth MC Cheung Elected as the
47th President of the Scoliosis Research Society
Milwaukee, WI (October 21, 2016) – On September 24, 2016, during the Scoliosis Research Society’s (SRS) 51st Annual Meeting & Course, held in Prague, Czech Republic, SRS inducted its 47th President of the Society, Kenneth MC Cheung, MBBS(UK), MD(HK), FRCS, FHKCOS, FHKAM(Orth). Professor Cheung is the first international president, one who lives and works outside of North America, in the Society’s 50-year history and will fulfill a one-year term.
Professor Cheung has been a member of SRS since 1999 and has served in several leadership positions including chair of five committees, the 2004 traveling fellowship, deputy editor of Spine Deformity - The Official Journal of the Scoliosis Research Society, and the Board of Directors. He was also the local host for SRS’s 15th International Meeting on Advanced Spine Techniques (IMAST) in Hong Kong, China.

When asked about his historic election as the first international president of SRS, Professor Cheung replied, “…I would prefer members to think of me, not because of this, but rather as another member who is passionate about this Society and what it stands for; passionate about being a global citizen; and passionate about making the lives of our patients better.”
Prof. Cheung is currently the Head of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology and Jessie Ho Professor in Spine Surgery at The University of Hong Kong. He has held leadership positions with AOSpine International Research Commission as chair, 2006-2008; World Forum for Spine Research as a founding chair, 2008-2014; and President of the Hong Kong College of Orthopaedic Surgeons, 2013-2014.
Prof. Cheung is an avid runner, participating in the Hong Kong and London marathons in 2015, enjoys traveling the world with his lovely wife of 30 years, Cecilia and has two children.
