The 2019 Annual Meeting in Montréal was a success, thanks to Firoz Miyanji’s Program Committee which found a good balance of instructional and scientific content. Thanks also to Burt Yaszay’s Education Committee for a stimulating session on practice improvement. Attendance met expectations, at 1407 attendees.

Scenario:
Dr. Jones is an established surgeon at an academic medical center. She has recently hired a new partner, Dr. Smith, who has just finished his fellowship in pediatric orthopaedics at a reputable program known for adequate volume training in spinal deformity. Prior to Dr. Smith’s arrival, Dr. Jones spoke with the fellowship director who assured her that this individual performed quite well and was capable of treating spinal deformity patients.

The Awards and Scholarship Committee Team had a quite fruitful meeting on 17 September, 2019 during Montréal Annual Meeting. Forty-two of 213 applications were awarded within 2018-2019 term. Within 12 countries, India received the highest number of award recipients.

I am honored to have assumed the Chairmanship of the Fellowship Committee beginning at the Annual Meeting in Montréal, taking the reins from Michelle Caird who did a superb job of steering the committee last term with the help of Alysha Chapman. The state of our Society’s membership is strong. We have 691 Active members, 304 Candidate members, 77 Associate, 287 Emeritus, and 7 Honorary members.

The next 4 years of the Annual Meeting locations are confirmed, as listed below. The Annual Meeting locations are chosen so as to balance the venues throughout the world, however the majority of the Annual Meetings will be hosted in North America. The Annual Meeting for 2024 is shaping up to be in Barcelona, Spain.
