Education Resource Committee

Chair
The Education Resource Committee (ERC) is coming off a very productive 2020-21 year and is now revamping our efforts for 2022. Currently, all content from the SRS E-Text has been revised by SRS members and is in the process of being uploaded into the 10 core curriculum domains on the Education Resource Center website.
We have provided links to Spine Deformity state of the art reviews and committee members have been writing three to five bullet points (“Key Points”) as well as review questions for each ERC chapter. Updating educational content, based on the core curriculum domains is a dynamic process and is being constantly revisited on a rotating schedule. We are working with SRS staff to ensure that new and revised ERC content is uploaded onto the SRS website in a timely fashion.
The Growing Spine Committee and the Adult Deformity Committee have both been engaged this past year and have started to create new content for the ERC. Specifically, the Growing Spine Committee has created content for Domain IV: Neuromuscular Scoliosis and the Adult Deformity Committee has created working groups to create content for domains IV: Neuromuscular Scoliosis, V: Cervical Spine, VI: Adult Deformity, VII: Degenerative Spinal Deformity, and IX: Spondylolisthesis. This year we will also plan to engage the Non-operative Committee, Safety & Value Committee, and Patient Education Committee to create ERC content.
ERC committee members have sorted previous SRS Webinars by domain, have been reviewing past Annual Meeting and IMAST videos, and have advised on the location of links to these videos from the respective educational domains. This year we will continue the review of past Annual Meeting and IMAST videos (i.e. Half-Day course, Lunchtime Symposia, etc). The ERC committee will also work with other SRS committees to create new video content. ERC Committee members have been reviewing PowerPoint lectures presented at other live educational programs and are advising on the location of these lectures within the ERC.
In 2020, there were 2500 ERC pages views and our team will continue to monitor access to the ERC pages on the SRS website. We have recently made access to our educational materials easier by removing the sign-in requirement, which should make it much easier for non-members, including trainees, to access the high-quality educational material.
To further popularize the ERC, we have compiled lists of North American spine fellowships and orthopaedic / neurosurgery residency programs and are also working on identifying international spine fellowship programs. We will write letters to the program directors in order to help market the ERC material. As part of our marketing plan, we will utilize SRS social media and SRS monthly E-News with ERC teasers and direct links to new material.
So much has been done by the ERC and by many other SRS members to improve our educational content and we look forward to ensuring that this valuable information is kept relevant and is easily accessible. All SRS members are welcome to help out with this important educational initiative! Special thanks to Courtney Kissinger for her dedication to our committee.
